Getting To Know Us
Our History
Above and Beyond Food Pantry was founded in 2021 by Iliana Sweis in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood in response to rising food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. What began in a single storefront quickly grew to meet overwhelming community need.

Today, the pantry operates across two storefront units and serves tens of thousands of individuals annually. In addition to providing reliable food access, Above and Beyond Food Pantry connects neighbors to supportive services, peer support groups, and community partnerships that address both immediate needs and long-term stability.

As the organization continues to grow, it remains rooted in its founding commitment to dignity, access, and community support.

Mission
Above and Beyond Food Pantry provides reliable food access and supportive services to individuals and families across Chicago, strengthening dignity, stability, and long-term well-being.
Vision
A Chicago where every individual and family has reliable access to food, meaningful support, and the opportunity to achieve lasting stability.
